Project Detail

East Middle School
Educational

Location: Butte, MT

The East Middle School project in Butte, Montana, consisted of a 140,000-square-foot renovation and a 33,300-square-foot addition to an existing dated middle school. The project was phased over several years in order to work on the renovation portions of the project during the summer months and to work on the addition during the school year.

The addition consisted of a new 16,800-square-foot gym and locker room and a new 16,500-square-foot science wing on the second level. The renovation included the replacement of the HVAC system, plumbing fixtures, and electrical system (power, lighting, fire alarm) throughout the building. The existing facility’s heating plant was converted from steam to hot water and all heating piping was replaced. Boilers were outfitted with new controllers, and a new gas service was put into place to accommodate the new addition.

A new electrical service was put into place to service the facility with an adequately sized service to accommodate the addition and update the facility power to accommodate the current needs for additional power. Lighting was updated to LED fixtures in all renovated areas. New low-voltage and special systems were installed, including fire alarm, clock/bell systems, IT, security cameras, and door access controls.

A new kitchen was included in the project scope. It features new hoods, exhaust systems, makeup air systems, grease interceptor, and new appliances.
