Benefis Women’s and Children’s Center
Healthcare

Location: Great Falls, Montana

ACE provided professional engineering services for the new 48,000-square-foot, three-story Women’s and Children’s Center for the Benefis Health System in Great Falls, Montana. Once construction is completed in early 2022, the new center will offer a range of services in a comforting, state-of-the-art space designed to promote collaboration among medical providers. The center will include spaces for pediatric therapy, mammography, laboratories, imaging, and conference rooms.

The mechanical design for the building will utilize a hydronic heating and cooling method with redundant high-efficiency boilers and an air-cooled chiller with redundant pumping systems for distribution. The HVAC system will consist of multiple air-handling units utilizing variable air volume air distribution for zone tempering and reheat; these units will be located in the mechanical penthouse on the roof. The first-floor waiting area will feature hydronic radiant heating in the slab to provide additional comfort to occupants upon entry to the building.

Direct/indirect lighting and dedicated exam lights will be provided along with several electrical outlets, both regular and emergency powered. All lighting for the new building was designed for LED fixtures. Emergency power will be achieved through a new diesel generator and central UPS for the building.
